Thai Tone Rules

Mai tri and mai chattawa are written only on mid-class letters.

In the standard table a high- or low-class dead syllable carries no mark: its tone is already fixed by class and vowel length.

Modern spelling writes past this one. ค่ะ — low class, dead·short, mai ek — is the commonest polite particle in the language.
